below is info on sound:

1. If you plug a mono plug into a stereo connector, at best, you will lose one channel. You should try a stereo to mono adapter. You should check the result, as, depending on the microphone, you may suffer a loss in quality. It may be best to stick with one channel of good quality audio.
Either way, it wont serious effect the capture - you will either end up with the audio on one channel or two. With most editing programmes you can easily render a mono audio source to two channels if your render is stereo.

2. When you capture to the PC, two channels will be captured if the camera is a stereo camera. You will then find that one channel has audio whilst the other doesn't. You can simply mute the dead channel, and do a mono mix to both channels to give you a 2 channel render.

3. Most microphones are mono. The ME66 is a semi-shotgun microphone and is mono. The AT835b is also a semi-shotgun, and is mono. Be aware that both of these require phantom power packs to make them work

Note on Stereo and Mono Recording

stuff about recording not neccessarily for DV but explains it abit?

Stereo recording consists of two channels of sound--the "right" and the "left". Mono recording conisists of one channel, but this can be a bit confusing. When a mono mic is plugged into a mono jack on certain types of recorders, the sound will be fine--it would come out of both speakers when played back on any audio system (and the sound will appear to be coming directly from the center.) When a mono mic is plugged into a stereo jack on a minidisc or other device without the correct adapter, you will only get sound out of one side--generally, the left side. This can be very annoying to try to fix after the fact.

The ERC's Digital Video cameras automatically detect whether you are plugging a mono or stereo microphone into the microphone jack, and so these do not pose a problem.

The minidisc recorders do not detect this, though. They assume that you are using a stereo mic, such as the Sony ECM-MS907. If you are using a mono microphone with the minidisc recorder, you have two choices: you can use a stereo cord/adapter or you can record in mono mode.

Stereo Adapters:
The stereo cord for the EV 635A and EV RE20 is the cord that ends in a small phono jack with two blank lines at the end--rather than one. If you only have access to the mono cable, you can use the small mono to stereo adapter.

(mono 1/8" phono plug)

(stereo 1/8" phono plug)

If you are using the Sony ECM-T145 tie clip mic, you will need to use one of the small mono to stereo adapters if you wish to record in stereo.

Recording in Mono Mode:
When recording something that does not need to be in stereo--such as a single voice interview--you can double the recording time on your minidisc by recording in mono. To do this, press the "menu" button on the recording, then press the left or right arrow buttons until the display says "REC MODE". Flip through the options until it says "mono" and then press "enter". This will allow recording with a mono mic, and will also work with stereo mic--although, of course, you will lose the stereo effect.

Extension Cords:
The ERC has a number of extension cords for use with the microphones. The stereo 1/8" cords can be used with either stereo or mono mics, but remember that the extension cord is not an adapter: if you plug a mono mic into the extension cord, the signal will only come through one channel. If you need to turn the signal from mono to stereo, use the 1/8" mono to stereo adapter.

it's pretty useless as per the comments on the bottom but one comment was useful

stereo mics sold seperately
If you want to record in stereo, you either need two microphones or you need to purchase a stereo microphone (which is really two microphones in one case). With two seperate microphones you have more flexibility on where you locate the microphone and how intense the stereo effect will be.

so i think the mono just means one mic and stereo means you record in two, but the sound is still going to balanced when you play it back.

Brilliant sound info, except nothing on mono stereo

Joe joe joe. it's for our tropfest entry LAH. we dont just talk about bra unhooking for NO reason!
YOu so blur man! heheheh
Audio
Audio Track: Music.
Bit rate slider: 128 kbps (can be changed). If you need the file to be really tiny, you can reduce this to 64 kbps (especially if your audio is just speech, where you won’t notice much of a difference).

Channels: Mono. Only use Stereo if your video includes stereo music or has panned sound effects. If it is just speech, then the speech was likely recorded with a mono mic, so stereo would simply be a waste of space.

Output Sample Rate: Recommended. (this will keep the original sampling rate). If file size is a dire concern, use 32 kHz.

off da hook::

Opening scene
Passionate fumbling love scene, lots of heat, a guy and girl are starting to peel off each others clothes and the guy is struggling to undo the bra strap. He fumbles around so much that he flicks the snap cause the girl to yelp and kick him off the bed/couch. Freeze frame of guy falling off bed with pathetic look on face.
Cut to freeze fame of disgusted look at girl’s face.
“ever found yourself in this situation and thought – why the hell do they wear bras and more importantly how the hell do I take it off them.”
If you have gotten this far, you would have already followed our Introductory course to picking up women. Now, on to bras.
Intitally you would have to decide if you want to take her bra off. Some lazy/scared guys opt to wait for her to take it off herself, but sometimes fast unhooking techniques can turn really impress a lady.
Testimonial
“Clinton was always really bad at unhooking my bra, he’d always fumble and tug until eventually I’d give up and just take the bra off myself. Then suddenly one day he could just unhook my bra, with one hand. He was so smooth and had such style that it made me wonder if he was getting practice elsewhere! I thought he was having an affair, until he confessed he’d following the introductory course on bra removal.”
Tutorial one. Assess the bra. Know your bra. singledouble-hooktriple-hook,front-hook,the tricky no hook,
speciality tips for : 5 way interchangeable bra strap and elastic sports bra (basically a no go zone).
2. Techniques Common unhooking techniques: 2 hands, index finger lift thumb combo, distract & attack, lift & grab etc (5 in total??)
Backup-plans
For the guys that aren't quite as skilled at getting them off, there's a really good cheat that a guy friend once told me. Kissing her neck will usually give you a view of the damn thing if you're in front of her.

3. Practice. Tales of unhookin success and failure (2-4 tales)
closing statements = but thats a whole other series... tune in next time style...
